Barnes and Campese join the Students

The Sydney University Football Club is very pleased to announce that Berrick Barnes, one of the stars of Australian Rugby, has decided to join the Club. In other news, David Campese, one of the legends of the game will also join the Club’s coaching staff, while Bevan Cadwallader has been appointed Director of Rugby.

Since bursting onto the rugby scene and being capped for his country in 2007, Berrick has become an automatic choice for the Wallabies. Now resident in Sydney, Barnes is studying Commerce at Sydney University.

Bevan Cadwallader, most recently was the Co-Coach of the Tasman Air New Zealand Cup team – one of the feeder clubs for the Crusaders.

David Campese, or “Campo’ as he is universally known was capped 101 times by the Wallabies and, until recently, held the world record for the most tries in test matches (64). Campese’s role with the Club is to develop a Sevens Program for both men and women. He will also be heavily involved with refining the skills of all Grade, Colts and Juniors at Sydney University Rugby.

David Mortimer AO, President of The Sydney University Football Club commented, “We are very excited about the addition of Berrick, David and Bevan to the Club. Apart from being an outstanding player, Berrick has shown maturity and other positive characteristics that make him a special person. David Campese is a rugby icon whose playing style brought an enormous following to the game of rugby. At Sydney University, we pride ourselves on playing an exciting game of rugby and David will certainly bring even more focus to our attacking game. Bevan joins us after a strong coaching career in New Zealand. His leadership and organisational skills will bring yet another dimension to Sydney University Rugby. We look forward to the 2010 season with great anticipation.”
