Q & A with Chris Wildman, Institutional Business Executive

What do you believe to be the key ingredients in AMP Capitals success?
It is our people that have made us one of the leading investment management companies we are today and its more than just hiring talented individuals. Integral to our success in maximising investment returns is our ability to develop and retain them as well. Our people drive our passion for research, manage our portfolios and aim to access the best investment opportunities for our clients.

What was the motivation to start AMP and AMP Capital Investors?
Since the days of bushrangers and the gold rush, AMP has been helping people manage their financial wellbeing so they can enjoy the future they want. Beginning in 1849 as the Australian Mutual Provident (AMP) Society offering primarily life insurance, AMP today is a well-recognised publicly listed financial services giant.

How long has the business been running and how has it evolved over the years?
AMP has been in operation for over 160 years and AMP Capital Investors has been in operation for well over 40 years. While our business name may have changed a few times over that period, our core business of investing has remained the same.

In addition to our well established reputation in Australia and New Zealand, AMP Capital is recognised globally with offices in China, India, Japan, the UK, New Zealand and Singapore.

What would you consider to be your highest achievement within AMP Capital?
In the eight years I have been working at AMP Capital I have been lucky to have been involved in many projects and have met some incredible people. The most memorable would be the working on the team that launched the first investment fund that gave Australian investors access to China’s share market back in 2004.

A rugby player yourself?
Yes, I’ve played rugby all my life, I grew up in London and played for my local team Mill Hill. After moving to Australia I now play the odd golden oldies game for Mosman.

What do you enjoy about SUFC?
They play great rugby, at a beautiful ground in an amazing city. I also really enjoy the end of season luncheon!!
