2012 Concierge Travel Scholarship

Scholarship opportunity at Sydney University for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Rugby Players.

Concierge Business Travel and the Sydney University Football Club are seeking applications for a scholarship for an outstanding Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander student to attend Sydney University who also has an interest in rugby union.

The goal of the scholarship is to support the education of young Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander men to empower them to realize their potential, to take responsibility for their own futures and to become leaders and role models to serve their communities and the common good.

This scholarship is available in 2012 and will assist with tuition and accommodation costs at Sydney University. Accommodation will be in one of the residential Colleges on the campus at Sydney University. The Colleges exist primarily as an academic community. Sport is an important aspect of Collegiate life. The colleges have expansive sporting facilities including a rugby oval, football oval, cricket nets and floodlit tennis and basketball courts.

The successful candidate will be of Aboriginal orTorres Strait Islander origin who qualifies for Sydney University entrance and will play rugby union for the Sydney University Football Club – Australia’s oldest and most successful Rugby Club. Candidates must be under the age of 20 at the beginning of the year of the awarding of the initial scholarship.

The Sydney University Football Club

The Sydney University Football Club (SUFC) competes each season with the same aims and winning commitment as the first team in 1863. As a member of the NSW Rugby Premiership competition, the Club fields four Grade teams and three Colts sides as well as a Women’s team. Almost 200 players take the field each weekend in the “blue & gold”.

1st Grade competes for The Shute Shield, which is the premier grade rugby trophy in NSW and is named in honour of the late Robert Elliott Stewart Shute.

The Sydney University Football Club (SUFC) is involved in a number of community based organisations and charities. The Club is proud to be associated with Redkite, a charity which provides support services for children and young people with cancer and their families – in hospital and in the community.
