Sydney Uni 13 - Manly 12

The 2nds Colts team decided they might as well make it three last minute victories from three to round out the finals and bring home the Shell Trophy.

The conditions were more suited to a game of marco-polo, and were set to reduce the game to a real arm-wrestle. Throughout the first half both teams exchanged attacking opportunities, only to be nullified by handling errors. Manly were however more effective at playing field position and capitalized on Uni mistakes to convert several penalties in the first half. Uni finished the half well, lifting the pace and coming close to converting territory into a try, only to be pulled up short again by handling errors in the wet. The first half finished with Manly's noses just in front 3-6.

After another Manly penalty early in the second half, Uni were able to settle into their tempo and lift the pace of the game. As expected Uni's momentum was difficult to stop, however Manly were able to prohibit Uni from converting attack into points through some desperate defense. After several passages of attacking rugby, keeping things simple and direct, Uni were finally able to catch Manly short and crossed for a try in the corner. After a difficult conversion Uni pulled in front for the first time all game to 10-9.

With about fifteen minutes to go however the game was far from over. After continuing to play field position, Manly were rewarded with a penalty directly in front of the posts with three minutes to go. After converting the penalty (10-12), Uni hit back with a typically sneaky kick-off from halfback Chris O'Donnell to regather possession and keep Uni in the contest. After building attacking phases and putting Manly under pressure we drew a penalty to provide an opportunity to take the game. As the final hooter sounded, Christian Kagiassis stepped up and cleanly connected to send the ball sailing over the uprights and deliver the Students a gutsy win.

Congratulations to the team on a great win! You certainly aged the coaches by at least ten years.
