Phil Waugh has been a members’ elected Trustee for the Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust since 2014. Representing the 19,000 SCG members on the SCG Trust, with the honour comes a significant responsibility to ensure SCG members’ best interests are front and centre in all conversations and meetings when discussing the current and future offerings of the SCG precinct.
During Phil’s first term as a Trustee he has endeavoured to maximise SCG membership value. Over the last 4 years SCG membership value has significantly increased as a result of the following:
- Sydney Swans – 30 year commitment to play all regular season games and all Finals at the SCG until 2044
- Rugby Australia – 16 year commitment to play at least 1 Rugby Test at the SCG precinct (excluding RWC years) until 2031
- New South Wales Waratahs – 16 year commitment to play all regular season games and Finals at the SCG precinct until 2031
- World Rugby 7’s – Secured the Sydney 7’s rugby tournament
- Sydney FC – 10 year commitment to play all regular season and all Finals at the SCG precinct until 2027
- Cricket Australia – 7 year commitment to play international cricket (all formats – including the Sydney Sixers Big Bash) until 2022
- NRL – Continued support from the Sydney Roosters and the Australian Kangaroos
As a proud SCG member, Phil has a vision that the SCG precinct can become the premier sporting complex in Australia and a leading sporting hub worldwide. To achieve this, the SCG Trust requires strong and passionate membership input and influence and unwavering Government support. Community and stakeholder advocacy is equally important to ensure the precinct is an inclusive and family friendly environment for all members and visitors to enjoy. Over the last 4 years, the SCG Trust has invested heavily to create a sustainable future for all sports and entertainment lovers including:
- Securing $729m NSW Government investment to build a World Class rectangular stadium, ensuring best in class Member’s facilities
- Year on year operating surpluses – all funds have been reinvested back into SCG members facilities
- Creation of the Members Advisory Group (MAG), designed to maximise SCG member feedback and input
- Creation of the Trust Advisory Group (TAG) which is a collection of SCG Trust community stakeholders to ensure full disclosure and transparency
- Rugby Australia and UTS building
Phil would love to continue his involvement in representing all SCG members on the SCG Trust to ensure sporting and entertainment content is maximised and SCG members’ facilities are the world’s ‘best in class’.
