This Saturday when the Waratahs host the Rebels there will be one family in the crowd undecided on who to cheer for.

The Talakai family will be out in force at the SCG on Saturday evening as oldest son, Sam returns to Sydney with his new team the Melbourne Rebels and will come up against his younger brother Chris and his Waratah teammates.

Both Chris and Sam have spent many years playing in the blue and gold hoops of Sydney Uni, however have never played together, but being on oppoisite sides isnt unfamilar to the siblings. Chris commented on the prospect of playing against his big brother ‘Going up against my brother is something we’ve always done. From footy on our knees in the lounge room, footy in the pool, touch footy, rugby league, the NRC, and now here. So it’s not anything new to us, however it will be fun doing that again in front of our family. I just hope this time we don’t get a hiding!’

Sam and Chris have both been named on the bench as replacement props for Saturdays clash, so we could see the pair go head to head come scrum time.

‘As for my family they’re excited, it’s going to be a special night for them, especially for my parents. My brother and I always look to make them proud, and I hope this is just another one of those things. A lot of our family will be there, so it’s going to be pretty special night.’ said Chris.

We wish both men the best of luck on Saturday.

Future Star
Look out for the pair’s younger sister Adianna who is also making her mark on the rugby field and the Sydney Uni front row as part of the Womens team who compete in the Jack Scott Cup.
