Sometimes dreams do come true, like winning Lotto, marrying the love of your life or that promotion at work. But none of those is better then winning your 16th Club Championship in a row, all teams in the qualifying finals and two minor premiers in the last round of the season. We had done all this before, but this is a club of youth playing like seasoned veterans, and to achieve all of the above as 21-22 year olds is outstanding. Congratulation to us.
Since 2003 we have had every team make the first week of finals (7 out of 7) except 2005, 2008 and 2017, were just one team missed out. So from a maximum 119 quarter final positions in 17 years, our sides have qualified 116 teams.
Our most successful side has been 3rd grade Colts (25 years in a row they have made the semis) 1995 to 2019.
Of the 5 grades who played Wests, (forfeits in 2nd and 3rd grade Colts), we scored 337 to 59 points, that’s 59 tries to 9 and a club average score was 59-12.
When a replacement is called on at Uni you require impact. Well eight of them scored 12 tries between them. Declan Moore (3), Will Wennerbom (2), Pat Muller (2), Peni Tuitupou (2) and Strath Yeo, Jake Gordon, Sam Eveleigh one each.
We have at the moment ten players in grade who have scored ten tries or more this season. Big scorers on Saturday were Will Terry (4), Declan Moore (3), Strath Yeo (3), Will Wennerbom (3) and 14 players scored a double.
Young Will Wennerbom reached his 50th career try for the Club and scored a 31-point haul in 4th and 3rd Grades. He now stands 8 points away from Justin Bosilkovski’s 2010 Lower grade record for most points in a season which is 295, Will currently has 288. He is also third in most tries in a season (Lower grades) behind Sione Kavelata 28 in 16 games and Cameron Lawrence 25 in 18 games, Will is on 22 from 16 games.
Henry Clunies-Ross played his 50th Grade game when he went on in 1st Grade.
Our 2nd XV reached their 100th try against Wests and are now on 105. Banjo Travers scored the 100th with his 2nd of the match.
Jack Stanford needs one more try for his 40th and 200th career point. Jack has scored a personal best with 8 this year, one more then he did back in Colts in 2014.
Sam Renton only needs 6 points to reach his 450 career points.
Pat Muller scored a double which gave him his 50th career try, now on 51. Pat spent 2018 in England playing.
Our Korean import Se Hong Kim reached his season 50 points with his 6th try in 4th Grade.
Another player to reach 50 points for the season is winger Will Terry who ran over for 4 tries.
Jack McCalman went to 10 season tries and his 50 points, It breaks his season best of 8 back in Colts in 2014, 2015 and grade in 2017. He is 2nd Grade’s leading point scorer and try scorer to date.
And last but not least Josh Hardie kicked 10 goals in 3rd Grade, which takes him to 393 career points, he has over 100 points in 3rd grade alone.
