Did you know:

When Jake Gordon led the Waratahs onto the field in round 1 of the 2021 Super Rugby Competition, he became SUFC’s 50th Waratah Captain. This is an honour for our club, that goes right back to 1882 when Ted Raper become the first NSW captain and Jake continues on the University tradition. Jake also has past his 50th game with the ‘Tahs and is sitting on 19 tries or 95 points for NSW. Also playing his 50th NSW game recently was Harry Johnson-Holmes. While Lachlan Swinton was the 2000th Super Rugby game by a Student, when he played against the Rebels on the 19.3.2021

Congratulations go to our newest Waratahs, Henry Robertson and Darcy Breen, both fresh out of Colts, last season. These two players bring our Waratah players at Uni to 244.

With the name change to “Hunter Widlfires” we continued to play our oldest opposition since 1877 last Saturday. The last time we played a Newcastle team at home was on 2.5.1998 when we won 11-3 on No.1 Oval.

We had 5 players make their 1st Grade debut on Saturday, they being Will Dearden, Eddie Poolman, Luke Ratcliff, Josh Schwager and Sione Taufui (who is still Colts eligible).

Tim Clements played his 50th 1st Grade game and was the first try scorer of the afternoon.

Declan Moore scored 2 tries from the Hooker position early in the game and in doing so brought up his career 50 tries and 250 points. Declan is in his 8th season at Uni, starting in Colts in 2015.

While Ben Hughes passed his 450 career points with 7 conversions. He is now on 461 points.

The 1st XV also reached a new record with the biggest aggregate in a game, was 69 now 80 points.

Our 1st Colts won 120-0 vs Hunter Newcastle with 4 minutes still on the ground clock to go. They scored 18 tries and 15 goals with 11 players scored, 8 of these were backs, who scored 15 between them.

Hamish Cressey (pictured) scored 3 tries and 15 goals, only 10 more points and he would of taken Bernard Foley’s Colts record from him. Bernard scored 2 tries and 22 goals in 2008 verses Penrith to give him 54 game points, Whilst Hamish will go directly into second place on 45 points.

Tasman Smith also scored 3 tries in the big victory.
