SUFC playing teams from Newcastle is not unusual. Our history goes back to 1877 were we lost the first game 0-23 at the St.Johns Green Oval just south of Newcastle. These games were on and off till 1930. The next result was in 1964 and 1995 till 1999, these games were in the Shute Shield. Last Saturday was our first game since that 1999 season. It was also our biggest win also 59-10 which beat a 31-0 on the 21.6.1890 at ASG in Sydney.

A break down is, played 22, won 15 lost 4 drew 0  cancelled 1 unknown results 3 points for 318 points against 148.

James Kane scored 24 points in the big win over the ‘Wildfires’, 2 tries and 7 goals. He also moved onto 1101 career points and may reach his 500 1st grade points next week verses Penrith at home. Currently on 490 main game points.

Lots of new players showing up in the weekend games, with Ofa Manuofetoa scoring his first 1st grade try. And Will Goddard making his 1st grade debut. Ciaran Loh scoring a try in his debut game in 3rds. Henry Robertson also did the same, late in the 2nd grade win. Dan Breden came on as fresh reserve in 1sts Colts and scored 3 tries on debut in that team. While Digby Cooke got a triple in the same match. And finally Jude Gibbs kicked 9 goals in the Colts 1st XV’s 68- 5 victory.

Back in grade Dan Calavassy scored his 40th career try to reach 200 career points with tries along, Dan also has a handful of goals in the seniors.

In Club Try Competition:

After 3 rounds the Hyphenated names and the Polynesian team have scored 8 tries each, then the Irish players next on 4 from the Brothers on 3 and the Scottish players on 3.
