On Sunday morning a Uni supporter text me, to ask ‘when was the last time we didn’t win a game against Gordon’. It was a good question, so I went back through my records to find the answer. It was 28 years ago on 11th August 1991, round 20 at No.1 Oval. That day we lost 1sts 6-17, 2nds 9-16, 3rds 3-35 and 4ths 9-28. It should be mentioned our 3rd Grade side had a 33-33 draw last weekend. It was only our third loss to Gordon in past 29 matches home or away, going back to 2009. To people not around in 2010 our 1st XV lost 5 of their first 7 matches, but went on to win the Premiership that year with a record score over Randwick 46-6.
Declan Moore scored his second double of tries this season. After playing 21 1st Grade games he scored his debut tries in this game. In doing this he passed his 150 career points at Uni.
James Kane scored his 67th try at SUFC and in so doing went past Eddy King on 66 to be the highest try scorer at the club still playing.
We now have a three way tie for “Top Try scorer” this year, as well as Declan, Will Wennerbom and Ben Hughes all on 6 each.
Will also increased his career points and now sits on 462 after 2 tries and 4 goals in 3rd Grade’s draw.
Jack Redden went over for his first five pointer of the season and also past his 250 career points, after having last year off.
Playing his 50th club game Hamish Dunbar also scored a try, his third this year.
Our 1st Colts team are now the only team undefeated in the club this year, with 5 wins from 5 games.
Like in Grade, Colts also have three players on 6 tries. They are Aidan Moore (brother of Declan) Jon Searle and Papillion Sevele.
Our rep players scored a few points in their games this weekend, with Nick Phipps and Matt Philip a try each and Folau Fainga’a getting a hat-trick taking him to 10 tries for the season. This is a Canberra Brumbies club record for a season by a forward. Bernie Foley also kick 3 goals. Between our 7 points scorers so far they have a total of 174 points, with 24 tries 12 goals and 10 pen goals.
