Fizza's Facts and Stats | Round 8, 2021

Did you know:

When records look like they may be broken, I go to the books, and with Declan Moore scoring his 12th try against Warringah and passing the Top Try scorer for 2008 (11 tries) by Jerry Yanuyanutawa (also a forward), I thought who has scored the most tries in a Shute shield season by a forward. So, I found out, Bob Louden 1928 and Harry Bergelin 2014 who scored 20 each and who both hail from the Manly Marlins. Our very own, Tim Davidson went close with 19 in 2005. With 11 games and 3 weeks of finals left to play Declan has a real chance of stealing that record for himself and SUFC.

With the passing early in the year of club legend ‘Red’ O’Connor, in the program last weekend was an open side flanker with the name of Redmond O’Connor playing in our 3rd Colts. The late ‘Red’ has two sons, but this young man is no relation, and he also scored a try. The name carries on.

Dan Poletto reached his 500 career points with 2 goals in 3rd and 1st Grade.

A big milestone in the 1st Grade game came true with a try each to Jack McCalman and Declan Moore who brought up their 300 points and 60 career tries.

Ben Hughes ended his game in 1sts with 13 points, that takes him to 493 career points. Ben also finally reached his century of points in the main game side. His first game in 1st Grade was 2015, so it’s taken a while but his now on 107 points.

Ed King scored 1st Grades 50th try for this season.

Josh Schwager (pictured) played his 50th Club game and Tom Osborne will get his next round.

While in Colts, Hamish Cressey reached his 150 for the season and sits in 155 to date. He is also 95 points clear of his nearest Colts point scorer.

In our 3rd Colts big win 47-0, prop Will Bale scored two tries and then another as a replacement in 2nd Colts.

It wasn’t all fun for our 3rd Colts, they did score 9 tries but only managed to convert one try.

On our Waratahs, our Uni players have scored six tries in the last two games when Angus Bell and Jake Gordon picked up another each last weekend in NZ.
