Sydney University undertook another road trip last Saturday to the foot of the Blue Mountains versus the Penrith Emus. University defeated the Penrith Emus 50-0 to maintain their perfect record for season 2021.

Penrith with their brobdingnagian* forward pack was unable to counter a disciplined University. From the outset University were restricting the Emus inside their quarter.  Rolling mauls and spreading the ball wide resulted in four tries and a bonus point within the space of twenty minutes. Prominent amongst the points was try hungry hooker Declan Moore.

The backline was looking sharp with quick passing being demonstrated profusely. Inside centre, Ofa Manuofetoa was looking solid and distributing the ball with aplomb. Ofa was also looking streamlined for speed with his new hair style sculpted and coiffured by Ramone of Newtown. Five tries were scored at the end of the first half reflecting a score line of 38-0.

The second half started off with another five-metre rolling maul try by hooker, Moore continuing his insatiable desire to dominate world rugby with another swag of tries.

University were introducing replacements at appropriate phases. Flanker, Hugh Summerhayes was introduced .  At midday he was playing at South Coogee and by 3.50 pm he was packing down alongside a scrum 65 kms to the west. Hugh has no concerns with rising fuel prices as his vehicle must be a Tesla! The scoreboard was consistently ticking over and soon the score line was 43-0 favoring University.

An episode of ill discipline by Penrith saw them down to thirteen men with one player being red carded for abuse to the referee. This was the cue for replacement fullback Daniel Poletto to chime into a movement to score University’s last converted try for a final score of 50-0.

Penrith to their credit were bustling University during the second half and held back the score line increasing substantially more.

Penrith is a minnow but resilient compared to other Shute Shield clubs upon their return to the Shute Shield. They provide a much-needed rugby outlet for the greater west and the iconic emu burger for hungry rugby souls.

Next week University are at home against the Manly Marlins to coincide with our annual Ladies Day.
