The Club is delighted to bolster our coaching ranks for the upcoming season with two exciting new appointments.

Firstly, we welcome Brian Smith to the Club, Brian who has won caps for both Australia and Ireland in Rugby Union, as well as having a stellar playing career in Rugby League will take up the role of the Club’s Attack Coach. Brian has over 20 years’ experience as a professional coach in varying roles including with England, Aussie 7s, Brumbies, Waratahs, Bath Rugby and London Irish. Brian is also currently the Director of Rugby at The Scots College.

Nick Ryan commented “To be able to add a person of Brian’s international experience, as both a player and coach to the already strong coaching panel shows the playing group how committed the Club is in providing a world class rugby program and environment.”

Brian’s main focus will be on establishing our attacking and kick strategies across the whole club and be a resource in this area for our club coaches in conjunction with our Head Coach, Sean Hedger.

We are also delighted to see the return of Oliver Atkins for 2022, as 1st Colts Forwards Coach. As a former SUFC and professional player, Oliver brings with him a wealth of experience and knowledge, and the Colts forwards are very fortunate to have someone with such a strong background with the Club as well as in professional rugby.

Oliver will work closely with Sam Reiser (2nd Colts Forwards coach) and Mark Bell (Colts Scrum coach) to ensure there is great detail and clarity around set piece within our Colts program.
