This weekend SUFC will be taking a team of boys up north to participate in the annual Crescent Head 7s competition!

With the 7s codes rapidly growing and the competition becoming more fierce, a squad of boys, coached by ex-Wallaby and SUFC player Julian Huxley, have been training for the past few weeks over the pre-season with a specific 7s focus.

Huxley, who has a keen interest in developing the 7s, recognises this as a perfect opportunity to allow the boys to be involved in some quality rugby early in the season in preparation for the Shute Shield, as well as being great for those who may wish to further themselves in Rugby 7s too.

“Competing at the Crescent Head and Kiama 7s’ tournaments gives us a great chance to create some early momentum for the 2015 season” said Huxley.

“If our boys want to chase an Olympic dream it has to start somewhere and if they perform well at these two tournaments they will definitely put themselves on the radar. If they want to concentrate on 15 a side rugby then 7’s is a great opportunity to get lots of involvements and hit the ground running when the Shute Shield begins.”

“Either way, the SUFC will benefit greatly from investing in the 7’s program and continue to be leaders in Australian club rugby.”

The boys will play their first game early on Saturday morning (8.48am kick-off) against Hawthorne. Winners of their first round games will then play off against each other, while losers will make up a separate pool. You must win each of your games to then progress to Quarters, Semis and eventually the Finals.
