From the darkness of the tunnel emerged the Pirate Man of War.
The Jolly Rodger flying in all its glory raised as a warning
Strike your colours or be shown no quarter
As they maneuvered broadside
Arrrrr, the squiffy cut throat crew swung the hangman’s noose
Their cutlass blades drawn as the heavy cannons opened fire
Dead men tell no tales as they boarded our ship.
Butchering a path through our defenses.
As the six pounders continued to bombard our morale.
We regained our sea legs and reformed our lines
Our spirited discipline repelling the blood thirsty Pirate attack.
Securing the victory and the prize – Bonus Point.
Well done 2nd Grade!

Third Grade (Henderson Shield)
Third Grade: Sydney University 53 (Pen try, Henry Clunies Ross 3, Dylan Vieira 2, Ben Cannon, Justin Fourie, Harrison Blake tries; Cannon 3 cons, William Macklin con) defeated West Harbour 17 (Joey Palmer, William Wardlaw tries; Iggy Faaui 2 cons, pen goal) at Sydney University Football Ground.
Fourth Grade (Henderson Cup)

4th Grade gave their supporters their money’s worth as they entertained their way to a 66-5 win over West Harbour. Wests started strongly with an early period of possession inside Uni’s half but could not break through the committed Uni defence. Uni found their way into the game and were ultimately rewarded with a pushover try to player of the match Max Hughes in the 16th minute. The floodgates opened somewhat after that as Uni scored 5 tries and 4 conversions for a 33-0 half time lead. A further five tries and 4 conversions followed in the second half with the only blotch on the scorecard a single try to Wests. The scrum was dominant throughout the match and set a platform for the boys to play open, running rugby. The players did the hard work in tight and played with pace and width as the match went on; it was an entertaining match to watch for the Uni fans.
Tom Wilson’s kicking game was excellent with 8 from 10 and Richie Draper was solid playing in the unfamiliar position of fly-half in his 50th grade game for Uni. Harrison Blake was excellent at full back scoring a hat trick in his starting debut for the club and Max Hughes was involved in so many plays it looked like there were 2 of him on the field.
Congrats boys, more of the same this week please.

First Colts (W. McMahon Memorial Shield)

There were no surprises with West Harbour’s performance in the weekend, they played the whole eighty minutes and kept coming at us all day.
Being aware that it is a long season, we took the opportunity to make seven positional changes to widen the opportunity and experience of playing at 1st Colts level and develop a few new combinations.
We weren’t as accurate at set piece as we have been in the past and that flowed through into our general attack and nullified our momentum.
Our backrow had a superb game and pressured West Harbour in every instance and gave us a lot of go forward and dynamic play in attack.
With the bonus point win, we remain at the top of the table with Gordon following in behind and overall the SUFC stay at the top of the Colts Club Championship.
The team is looking forward to being back at St Pauls this week for their second home game of the season.

The mark of a good team is finding a way to win when the chips are down and in a tough and gritty match that was the big take away from this weekends 17-14 victory over the West Harbour Pirates.
At 12-14 down in the dying minutes of the match the team were awarded a string of penalties in front of the posts that begged a shot at goal. To win with a goal in a top of the table clash would not have done the match nor occasion justice – it was a try or bust – a roll of the dice – fortune favours the brave.
Crashing over in the corner well after the final hooter to clutch a victory from the jaws of defeat was 17 year old Aidan “Little Bison” Moore in his first game of senior footy for the year.
Sean O’Byrne was Best on Ground after scooting from a tough rehab session to deliver a courageous and tenacious performance in the forwards. Ed King ran the team well over the vantage line several times for the two points while captain Langley Amitt’s solid work in contact earned him the point.
