Over the COVID-19 break SUFC has been working tirelessly to remain engaged with the community and look for areas of improvement that could be implemented to the club’s infrastructure. Both our juniors and connection to Central West Rugby have been a priority over this period.

After a highly successful “Try Rugby Day” held at Leichhardt Oval earlier this year with over 300 participants attending, our Juniors were off to a flying start with well over 150 new registered players across the three clubs. Along with this, our female Lionesses played their opening match this season in a highly successful Buildcorp Australian Club Championship day against Central West Rugby. This sense of community and relationship is held with the highest value to our club and we have looked to develop this over the last 6-8 weeks, creating a Junior development platform called “the Uni Way”.

The Uni Way has been designed to foster the values that surround SUFC and maintain an unparalleled connectivity to our junior clubs, creating a unique development of both players and coaches within SUFC pathway in both the male and female codes of the game.

So when looking to the remainder of 2020 and well beyond, the future will remain bright. In its infancy The Uni Way has already reached over 300 players, coaches and volunteers from our junior clubs and will continue to grow as our platform develops with  access to our coaching video library for players fundamental skill development, and finally, a designed SUFC coaching accreditation for our volunteers to heighten an understanding of development stages for junior athletes.

Although disappointing that the Club State Championships is not happening this long weekend, but on the bright side there is light at the end of the tunnel with training commencing last week and games looking to kick off early July for our Juniors. This is a truly an exciting time and space for rugby to develop and grow within our community so we wish you all the luck for this season and can’t wait to see you back on the pitch and playing the game we love so much.

Furthermore, we would like to send the message to all of our juniors that if you have not got access yet please speak to your coaches and clubs and they will be able to assist you. Lastly, please join our Junior’s Instagram for all the latest pics, highlights, and good news stories from around the grounds.
