Last week the Club lost a favoured son when Peter Farr-Jones lost his life in a tragic accident.
Pete played over 150 games for the Football Club including 106 in First Grade. In many of those matches he had the pleasure of playing alongside his two brothers Simon and Nick, the trio known semi-seriously as the “white Ellas”.
Pete was an elusive winger who scored 22 tries in a season in 1983 before decelerating into the fullback position.
He was also a very competitive University Athlete competing with the challenging 800 m distance as his pet event.
Pete’s involvement with the Football Club did not end with his playing days. Pete coached multiple seasons of colts and grade and is remembered fondly by so many of the players of those teams.
After playing and coaching he remained a keen supporter, often seen at the Birthplace of Australian Rugby and just a few weeks ago leading the charge and rounding up his contemporaries for a group excursion to the Shute Shield Grand Final.
Pete was an ever-youthful presence who is already missed by so many dear friends within the club and without.
A memorial celebration of Peter Farr-Jones’ life will be held at South Maroubra Surf Club at 3pm next Tuesday 19th November all are welcome and encouraged to join.
