Whitfeld bags nine tries and bronze medal

Six games, nine tries and a bronze medal - Bathurst rugby union star Jakiya Whitfeld made an impressive start to the 2019 Aon Uni 7s series.

The first of four rounds for the 10-team series was hosted by the University of Brisbane on the weekend, with RUGBY 7S Whitfeld part of the talented Sydney University line-up. On day one Sydney University went undefeated as they beat University of Adelaide 29-0, University of Melbourne 43-5 and Bond University 21-12. Whitfeld scored twice in each of those games as she showcased the trademark speed and fend which saw her named best on ground in the Bathurst Bulldogs' grand final win, her brace against Melbourne coming in the space of two minutes.

Day two was tougher as the Lionesses went down 19-10 to defending champions Griffith University and 10-5 to eventual round one champions University of Queensland. However, they hit back in the bronze medal match to beat Griffith 24-0, Whitfeld crossing in the fourth and 11th minutes. –
